HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR AAH
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOOOOOOOOOO……
Yes, it’s my baby’s birthday and she’s fourteen.
On this day, fourteen years ago, I was lounging about big as a house in a German hospital, in a cold mechanical room replete with birthing aids [big plastic balls, mats, a bathtub in the middle of the floor], waiting for my baby boy to arrive.
That’s right. My baby boy.
For I had been told by two separate doctors that I was carrying a boy, even though in my heart of hearts I knew it was a girl because I’d had a dream about her a few days after conceiving. And not just any dream – it was the most vivid, mind-blowing, exceptional dream I’ve ever had in my life. And when she arrived I saw that the girl in my dream was just like her.
She’s turned into such a wonderful young lady. Gorgeous, independent, warm, funny, sensible, intelligent, witty – and sometimes infuriatingly stubborn and demanding, but hey, she’s human. And best of all, we’re friends, which is incredibly precious.
Festivities are being deliberately kept to a minimum as her big confirmation do is less than eleven days away and although she’s chosen to forego the religious thing she still gets the Big Party complete with banquet hall, catering service and lots of guests.
Yet today will involve some baking. And a dinner party for her closest friends. And hopefully lots of good healthy fun.
AND HER BIRTHDAY WEATHER IS…
Gross! unfortunately. We got the storm they promised us, but rather than conveying a sort of warm-air tropical kind of ambience [as YT had so erroneously envisioned], temps dropped to below freezing and it was just nasty and cold and awful. And here I was on my summer tires, slip-sliding all over the road, having so blithely removed the winter ones with the studs just a few days ago. Today the wind is still harsh and temps still freezing which can only mean that YT will not be having her longed-for comfy run today. Bleh! Currently –5°C and daylight arrived at 5.36 whereas darkness will come at 21.33.
